Coin wants to reduce by more than 50% of its energy consumption

A study has taken place warning of zero use of renewable energies and also warns that the public spending now exceeds 344,000 euros per year and CO2 emissions are 3,000 tonnes per annum.

The energy consuming public buildings and lighting system on the streets of Coín generate every year an expenditure of more than 344,000 euros and some create emissions of 2,919 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The Energy Optimization Plan, which tries to reduce by more than 50 percent energy consumption in the locality, as the mayor said yesterday, Gabriel Clavijo, who presented the study's findings.

The mayor Gabriel Clavijo stated the Energy Optimization Plan tries to reduce by more than 50 percent energy consumption in the locality.

The Energy Optimization Plan, which has been promoted by the Provincial Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Innovation of the Andalusia, warns that 47.22 percent of the public facilities in Coín have an high or very high expenditure of energy, while a 52.78 percent have a consumption which can be considered low (not to reach the 10,000 kWh).

Moreover, the study's authors warn that the degree of penetration of renewables is not very much, so a number of proposals are needed including the implementation of solar energy, both thermal and photovoltaic. The mayor stressed yesterday that this document will be the starting point of a job "between seven and twelve years" to reduce public spending power in Marbella, thereby resulting in an economic benefit for the municipal coffers and reduced pollution emissions.

Although it should be stated that even though the study measures to be applied, Clavijo brought forward some activities, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels, the renovation of the network street lighting with low consumption or replacement of diesel heater for the pool heating.
