“The Royal British Legion in Spain”

Provides Additional Support for Welfare

Photograph shows left to right Liz, Jackie & Polly

Over the last few years, in Southern Spain, the Legion has rapidly grown from a few branches spread along the coast to 13 branches with a membership in excess of 2,000. Recently formed branches are now stretching inland taking account of the move by expatriates further away from the coast. Inland branches have been formed in the Alhaurin area (2 branches), Coin, Los Romanes and Mollina. It is expected that three new branches will be formed over the next 12 months. All this brings with it a stretching of resources for the necessary support over this vast area.

The Welfare responsibility, of District Spain South, covers all of Andalucia and beyond which is about the size of Portugal and covers an area well in excess of 35,000 square miles.

To improve Welfare within the District there has been a number of new appointments to improve support and assistance. Two new Welfare Co-ordinators have been appointed: Polly Harpin covering the area to the west of Benalmadena and all inland branches excluding Los Romanes, and Liz Pusey covering the area from Benalmadena and eastwards including Los Romanes. These enthusiastic individuals are supported by local branch Welfare Chairmen and Jackie Farenden, the hardworking Welfare Secretary who acts as the link between the south of Spain and the main Legion offices in the UK.

A relatively unknown fact is that an incredible 10.5 million are entitled to Legion Support, yet many are unaware of the services available or feel too proud to ask. We are encouraging everyone to look behind the poppy image to think of someone who could benefit from Poppy Support.

Telephone details are:
Polly Harpin:    605 656 978
Liz Pusey:        605 594 559
